The PBS-VOTER is a flush mounting panel designed to fit within the furniture of a debating chamber.  The size and colour of the panel can be adapted to meet the available space or room colour scheme.  Stainless steel and black are both popular options.

There are 7 freely assignable keys.  They can be assigned different functions within the PBS system and can feed back information to the operator with different colours and/or flashing.  The functions assigned will vary depending on what the parliamentary or meeting requires.  For example, a typical confugration could be:

  • Top button loops between 4 different interpreted languages that are fed to the headphone output
  • The top row of 3 buttons could be used as voting buttons: - YES, ABSTAIN, NO.  All keypresses are logged in the system to verify who has voted and how they voted.
  • The bottom row of 3 buttons could be used for the parliamentary debating process: - REQUEST TO SPEAK (let the clerk know that the operator wishes to speak on the issue and puts them in a queue), POINT OF ORDER (let the clerk know that the operator wishes to make a point of order, INTERRUPT (let the clerk know that the operator wishes to interrupt the current speaker)

Button lighting can change to indicate any of the above functions.  The following are also popular lighting options:

  • INTERRUPT key flashes to let the operator speaking know that someone wishes to interrupt them.  This can also be with a seperate desktop or gooseneck mounted light.
  • All or some of the keys go red to let the operator know that their mic is live

The headphone output has a local volume control.  The source of this audio is a Dante network channel and it is typically used for interpretation.  The top button allows the operator to select between 4 audio channels.

A 3 pin XLR allows connection of dynamic or phantom powered gooseneck microphones.  The microphone gain ranges will be configured in setup to allow for the type of mic used and the room acoustics to prevent feedback.

The XLR socket is on a shock proof rubber mount.  As the operators of these units are typically MPs we expect computers, notpads, folders, pens and other such items to be banging and knocking the desk.  This shock mount eliminates these noises from the audio path.

The loudspeaker provides the local audio to this position as part of the wider chamber system.  The system controller will dim and mute this speaker as necessary as part of the audio reproduction dynamic control.

Power and audio is via an RJ45 connection to the PBS-MOP1 or the PBS-MOP4.
