HOWL 32
32 Channels Of Network Audio Feedback Protection

Features Description Specifications Ask a Question
  • Network audio feedback protection
  • 32 channels
  • Each channel frequency shifted down by 5Hz
  • Primary and redundant Ethernet on copper and SFP fibre
  • Twin power supply

The Glensound HOWL32 is a high density frequency shifter for preventing audio feedback across Dante and AES67 audio networks. It can be fitted with a maximum of 4 independent frequency shifter cards. Each of these cards provides 32 audio inputs and 32 frequeency shifted audio outputs from the network.

There are no user controls on the HOWL32 as the frequency shift function is preset - what comes in, goes back at less 5Hz.  This function means that if you route a mic audio input via the HOWL32, you will significantly reduce the liklihood of acoustic feedback.

Every frequency input has a 5Hz fixed offset for, example, 1 kHz in → 995 Hz out.  So the signal coming back to the mic is never at exactly the same frequency as what left it.  That means the system can’t 'lock onto' a single resonant frequency and build a continous howl, as the potential feedback frequency keeps reducing.

Being designed for 24/7 broadcast operation, each module on the HOWL32 features redundant network interfaces.  Both primary and secondary network interfaces are available on copper Ethernet and SFP module slots for fibre.  Redundant power is available via dual AC IEC connections.

Dante network audio is a common protocol for distributing high quality linear audio over standard IP networks and it is widely used by many audio equipment manufacturers. The Glensound HOWL32 Frequency Shifter will be compatible with any other manufacturers' Dante audio interface. Further details of Dante network audio can be found at www.audinate.com
