GS-2U011C
Simple Yet Versatile Monitoring & Output Unit

Description Specification Downloads Ask a Question

The GS-2U011C is a highly versatile monitoring & output device designed to add the 'broadcast' facilities that tend to be missing on modern low cost mixing desks.

It features 2 traditional single needle Sifam PPMs for accurate easy quick reference of levels, 2 variable compressors for control of the incoming levels, 2 line identification circuits for playback of pre recorded messages, operators talkback to the 2 outputs for communications, 2 x 6 way analogue distribution amplifiers (that can be switched to 1 x 12 way) for sending the programme to multiple locations and a headphone monitoring point for the operator o keep track of the signals.

PPMs

The 2 single needle Sifam PPMs are illuminated by bright long lasting white LEDs. Each PPM monitors it's associated main input or a 2nd local external source. This source selecetion is on a front panel PPM Select switch.

A & B Inputs

There are 2 electronically balanced inputs. These inputs have an associated 3 positin switch that sets the input level. The 3 posistions are -10dB, 0dB & Adjust. The -10dB position adds 10dB of gain to the input to lift it for domestic level products, the 0dB provides no gain or loss and the 3rd postion Adjust allows the associated preset potentiometer to adjust the input level by -20 to +6dB.

Compressors

The 2 compressors can operate independently for production of 2 mono programme feeds or can be linked for a stereo programme by the use of a front panle 'stereo link' switch. Each compressor has a selectable compression ratio of 10:1, 5:1 or 1:1, a 3 position switch to select the recovery time of SLOW, AUTO or FAST. Two +/- 10dB potentiometers set the threshold of each compressor and 4 LEDs also indicate the amount of compression currently being applied.

Tone & Line Ident

For each of the 2 channels there is an inbuilt line identification circuit with inbuilt tone. The line ident can record a message (from the operators mic section) of up to 16 seconds. If any of the 16 seconds recording time is not used the remainder of the 16 seconds automatically fills up with 1kHz tone at a nominal 0dBu. When in playback mode the recorded message and tone continually repeat until switched off.
2 front panel switches which are protected by a large physical block to prevent accidental operation switch the idents on/ off and into record mode.

Talkback & Operators Mic

On the front panel there is an XLR for connection of an external operators mic. There is also a front panel mounted built in microphone. Each of these 2 microphones have their own preset gain control and a front panel switch selects which of the 2 mics is to be sued for talkback purposes. The internal talkback mic amplifier features a simple compressor/ limiter circuit to make the talkback audio sound clean.
2 front panel latching/ momentary lever key switches route the output of the operators mic to the units 2 outputs. To prevent accidental operation these 2 switches are protected by a large physical block.

Operators Headphones

An internal headphone amplifier is provided for monitoring for the operator. A front panel gain control adjusts the operators headphone volume and both a 6.35mm and 3.5mm front panel headphone jack socket is provided for connection of headphones. The headphone amplifier can select 1 of 3 sources to monitor via a front panle 3 position toggle switch. The three sources available are the units main DA outputs, the local EXT input to the PPMs or an unbalanced local jack input on the rear of the unit.

Distribution Amplifiers & Outputs

There are 6 electronically balanced outputs for each of the 2 mian inputs. Each bank of 6 outputs can be set to have a line up of 0dBu or +4dBu via a rear panel toggle switch. The outputs can also be linked to provide 12 outputs from just one of the inputs, this feature can be selected via a front panel switch.
